About
The Denmark Healthy Communities Project is an important initiative. By building community capacity to promote health and address issues that impact negatively on health and well-being it will simultaneously provide an opportunity to improve communication; develop greater social inclusion; and strengthen existing assets in our town.
I have lived in Denmark for 27 years, raised my daughter, built our home, taught at the local schools, counselled and mentored many young people and seen the devastating impacts of disengaged youth on family and community life. High unemployment, an increasing aging population and distance are also factors which challenge the social, economic and emotional health of our community. The core challenge for the new Healthy Community Project Officer is to facilitate the building of an effective action plan, coordinate and maintain relevant activities and encourage all levels of community engagement from a solid research foundation. I am excited by the concept of developing a healthy, learning community in our town and offer my skills, experience, enthusiasm and commitment to address this challenge.
