Heaps of community based activities and services are being generated by the proactive members of the Denmark Healthy Community Project. Over 27 regular volunteers are making a real difference in our town through activities such as:
- The Denmark Community Resource Network - organisers of the Community Network forum in June and currently compleying a strategic plan and designing a community volunteer database specifically for DENMARK!
- The Relief Assistance Network - coordinators of the ‘donations cages ‘ at local supermarkets, food and furniture assistance to local families in need, grant writing for successful School Chaplaincy funding for Denmark High School and Agricultural College ($120,000 over 3 years), ongoing financial and emotional assistance through combined church and service groups. 4 Mental Health First Aid www.mhfa.org.au courses (in conjunction with the RCSS and Palmerston), have been organised and run this year 2007 with over 70 people getting the chance to learn how to deal with mental health issues in their families and community.
- Emergency Accommodation Group - subcommittee progressing possibility of setting up safe/emergency accommodation for short term crisis care in Denmark.
- Employment and Youth - developing Sports Leaders Program for trainig young people; Racing For Life Initiative (Mini-Moto skills development and social interaction events); community - schools liasion programs for 2008 onwards in conjunctyion with Lcoal Community Partnerships and SWL programs.
- Free Legal Service venue provision - the Albany Community Legal Service uses the HCP Office on every second Wednesday of the month offering free legal advice and support to local residents.
- Denmark Community’s Future Fund - created to encourage philanthropic donations to a foundational fund for all of Denmark! The newly formed DCFF is a member of the Western Australain Community Foundation www.wacf.org.au and aims at providing a wealth base for future generation in our town.
- Close liaision with all major agencies in town forms a resource hub for the HCP activites e.g. Health Service, Police, Education, Local Government, DCD and DCP, Palmerston (LDAG), Youth, Seniors, Sport and Recreation ensures the growth of sound information and referral services in future!
