INSPIRATION - what do YOU do to stay mentally healthy?
The term ‘mental health’ is very often heard when describing ‘mental illnesses. In fact a survey in 2002 of 1500 adults in Western Australia found that 68 % of respondents agreed that the term ‘mental health’ actually has connotations of ‘mental ill-health’, 11% had mixed connotations and 21% had primarily positive connotations. These same people associated the term ‘mentally healthy’ with positive connotations of being happy or contented.
So what about mental health? We all have it. How do you look after yours? What do you do to stay mentally healthy? The chances are you are already doing a lot of things in your daily life that are good for your mental health such as exercising, spending time with supportive people, getting out in the fresh air whatever it is that you have found that makes you feel good, inspires you and motivates you.
In recognition of Mental Health Week the Denmark Speakers Corner Soapbox on Sunday 15th October will be on the topic ‘Inspiration - what do YOU do to stay mentally healthy? So if you have an inspirational story, personal belief, phrase, picture, song or anything else that you’d like to share with your fellow community members then come down to the Fig Tree Plaza at 1pm on Sunday 15th October and have your say. mental-health-week-denmark-speakers-corner-flier.doc

The Healthy Community Project brochure and survey have been distributed to Denmark residents through the Library, High and Primary School newsletters, absentee ratepayers, by hand around town, at the Cooperative Corner morning display and information table, community consultation meetings and at different community gatherings e.g. Village Soapbox (Soapbox Sundays- our next one is next week on 17 September at the Fig Tree as usual:-)
All Denmark residents are encouraged to read the brochure and complete the survey, so we get a good idea of what Denmarkians see as their main health and well being issues and suggestions about what we can do to improve them.
Click here to access an online version of the HCP brochure and please drop completed surveys off in the box at the Library or Gill’s Office next to the Library or post to PO Box 170 Denmark 6333 WA. hcp-brochure-july-2006.pdf
